Yes. LBP has Florida alignment documents for four bands: 0 to 12 months, 13 to 24 months, 25 to 36 months, and 3 to 5 years. Each maps activities to the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards for birth to kindergarten, the 2017 standards Florida uses for both School Readiness and VPK. See the documents on our curriculum alignments page. Lessons from infancy through pre-K also align to the Head Start ELOF.
Yes. Learning Beyond Paper is on the Division of Early Learning’s Approved School Readiness Curriculum list for birth to kindergarten. That matters because Florida law requires School Readiness providers to implement one of the curricula the department has approved. Your coalition contract has other requirements too, including the annual program assessment of teacher-child interactions, where providers need a composite score of at least 4.00.
Florida law lets each private VPK provider and public school select or design its own curriculum, as long as it is developmentally appropriate and aligned to the state’s VPK performance standards. The exception is a provider that falls below the minimum scores and must choose from the department’s list of curricula approved for that purpose, so check your status with your coalition before switching. LBP’s 3 to 5 year lessons are mapped to the Florida standards.
The Department of Children and Families licenses child care facilities and homes in 63 of Florida’s 67 counties; Broward, Palm Beach, Pinellas and Sarasota run their own licensing. LBP does not replace licensing standards, but it gives every classroom a written, age-appropriate plan and a record of what each group did, which is useful when an inspector or coalition staff member asks how learning is planned.
School Readiness and School Readiness Plus help eligible families pay for care, and your local early learning coalition contracts with providers and manages payments. Florida law allows up to 30 coalitions, covering all 67 counties. LBP’s single yearly subscription is a predictable cost for a center serving SR children next to private-pay families, and its approved-list status covers the SR curriculum requirement. Reimbursement rates come from your coalition, not from LBP.
Florida law requires child care personnel to complete an approved 40-clock-hour introductory course within their first year, then 10 clock hours of approved in-service training every year, plus a one-time 5-hour course in early literacy and language. LBP University’s 49.5 hours of on-demand learning help teachers build skills, but only approved training counts, so check with DCF or your county licensing agency before logging LBP hours. Yes. Florida licenses or registers family day care homes depending on the county, and many care for mixed ages.
